Cumann na mBunscol County Hurling Champions
A huge congratulations to our 3rd and 4th class hurlers who have become Cumann na mBunscol County Hurling Champions. The final was held recently on hurling/camogie finals night in Darver Centre of Excellence and the boys excelled in a great win over Knockbridge. The team had previously also won their three matches in the county blitz to get to the final.

We held our annual school feis this morning. Well done to all our competitors. Our judges Lorcan O hUallacháin &
Padraigín Ní Uallacháin had a very difficult task in selecting the overall winners.
Congratulations to Saoirse who won first prize and was presented with the Breda Ní hUallacháin perpetual cup and a €50 Smyths voucher. Veronika was thrilled to be named in 2nd place and she received a €30 Smyths voucher.
In 3rd place was Cairell who received a €20 Smyths voucher.

Design A Scarecrow Competition
Congratulations to Ella who was the overall winner of the Navan Education Centre Schools' Competition. Ella travelled to Navan where she was presented with her prize and she also had the opportunity to see the replicate scarecrow made by the Education Centre
Dundalk Credit Union Christmas Colouring Competition
Congratulations to Aoife, Karl and Maya who were all winners in the senior section of this competition and to Alice who was a winner in the junior section.
Credit Union- Chapter Level
Congratulations to Wren, Aoife and Sineida who were all winners at chapter level in the Louth, Monaghan & Cavan region credit union art competition. The girls received cash prizes at a presentation in the Nuremore Hotel recently. As Aoife won 1st prize at chapter level her picture now goes forward to represent Cuchullain Credit Union in the national finals. Best of luck Aoife !
Amnesty Art Competition
Congratulations to Ella who was the winner of the overall best picture in the Dundalk Amnesty Primary Schools art competition. Ella's winning poster showed a homeless family and had the caption 'Care today is hope for tomorrow'. Ella received her prize from Joan Brady, Amnesty Dundalk at a prize giving ceremony in The Oriel Centre recently.
11th December 2019- Railway Heritage Essay Competition
Our 6th class participated in an essay competition which was kindly sponsered by the Dundalk Railway Heritage Committee. Congratulations to Katie, Ellie, Sophie + Sofija who were all winners in their respective classes. The girls were thrilled to receive family train tickets to Dublin as their prizes. We are grateful to Anthony Monaghan, Manager at Dundalk Train Station & to the members of the Dundalk Railway Heritage Committee who organised the event and sponsered the prizes for us.
'Someone Like me' Art Competition
We were thrilled to be among the winners in the ‘Someone Like Me’ art competition which aims to create an awareness of persons with disabilities in our society. Congratulations to Alice who was the Louth winner in the junior section of this competition. Alice attended the award the awards ceremony in Dublin City Hall on Tuesday, December 3rd and was delighted with the One4All gift card she recieved as her prize. Enjoy spending your prize Alice!!
Credit Union Art Competition
Well done to Wren who achieved 1st place in the Under 7 category, to Aoife who won 1st Prize in the 8-10 year old section and finally to Sineida who was the winner of the 11-13 category. As first prize winners in their respective categories the girls’ posters now go forward to represent Cuchullain Credit Union in the next round of the competition. We wish them further success at Chapter level. Aoife and Wren received their prizes at a prize giving event in the Carnbeg Hotel on Friday 29th November.

We got he year off to a great start with pupils from Muire na nGael winning 3 prizes in the Louth County Council art competition. Congratulations to Veronika, Terina & Sineida our 3 talented artists. They all received vouchers & RSA

In July, Saoiorse represented Co. Louth in the Mini-Sevens event at the All Ireland hurling semi-final in Croke Park.

Heritage Ireland Emoji Competition
Congratulations to Veronika who was selected as a finalist in the Heritage Ireland 2030 emoji competition. Veronkia attended the awards ceremony in The National Museum in Dublin on Tuesday. She received a family heritage pass and a t-shirt with her printed emoji, and Veronika’s artwork will feature on The Heritage Ireland publications next year.

Heritage Ireland Emoji Design
We were delighted to have two winners in this competition. Congratulations to Veronika and Gráinne who were awarded 1st & 2nd prizes for their creative entries.

We had further success in the poetry recitation competition at Feis Mhuirtheimhne last week. Credit Union Schools' Quiz - Chapter Section
Congratulations to Kerrie, Liam, Conor & Seán who were joint 3rd in the Chapter Section of the Credit Union Schools' Quiz Competition which was held in the Glencarn Hotel recently.
Schools from Louth, Monaghan & Cavan were competing in this event and our team brought great credit to the school. Our school and Cuchullain Credit Union are very proud of them. Thank you to Ms. McKenna & Ms. Daly for all their work with all our school's quiz teams.

We had further success in this competition with three of our pupils winning prizes at Chapter level ( Louth/Monaghan & Cavan region). Congratulations to Rachel, Nathan & Eoghan who impressed the judges once again at regional level.
As Nathan was a 1st prize winner on this occasion his poster now goes forward to represent Cúchullain Credit Union at national level. Best of luck Nathan!

Credit Union Art Competition
We were thrilled to hear we had seven winners in this competition. Congratulations to Eoghan, Rachel, Lucy, Veronika, Madeleine, Nathan and Katie whose art work impressed the judges and who were worthy winners in this event.
They received their prizes at an awards ceremony in The Carnbeg Hotel on Friday 30th November.
Cumann na mBunscol Quiz
Hely, Connor, Callum, Ben & James progressed to the county final and acquitted themselves well although not among the prize winners on the day.

Good Friday Agreement Art Competition
Congratulations to Ella who was the national winner of the Good Friday Agreement Art Competition for primary schools. Ella was presented with her €400 cash prize by Tanáiste Simon Coveney at a function in Iveagh House in Dublin recently.
Society of Missionary Children Easter Colouring Competition
Congratulations to Eryk who was the winner of the Society of Missionary Children Easter colouring competition. He won a book voucher and art materials. Well done Eryk!!
Easons Spelling Bee
Jade’s classmates cheered her on as she competed in the Louth finals of the Easons Spelling Bee at Dundalk Grammar School recently. Jade performed amazingly achieving the runner up position. She fell at the final hurdle on the spelling of "evapotranspiration" !!
Ms. Savage, Ms. Daly and indeed all in Muire na nGael are extremely proud of her.

Show Racism the Red Card
There was much excitement in our school when we learned that our school’s entry in the “Show Racism the Red Card” creative competition had been shortlisted by the judges. Mr. Lyons class attended the awards ceremony in Tallaght Stadium and we were thrilled when Patrick & Leah's poster was declared as the "Best Poster at Primary School" level.
There was further good news when our school received a "Special Commendation" from the judges in recognition of the high standard of art entries submitted by our school.

SightsaversJunior Painter Awards
Congratulations to Ella who was runner up in the Sightsavers Junior Painter Awards recently. Ella won an art box for herself, an art workshop for her class and a €200 book voucher for the school. This is the 2nd year that Ella has won this prestigous award. Well done Ella, we are so proud of you!!
Well done also to Alice whose entry "Edible Candyland" was highly commended by the judges and Alice also received an art box for her efforts. Keep up the great work Alice!

Trinity Trip for Ms. Daly's Class
Ms. Daly won an all-expenses paid trip for her class to Trinity College at a recent PDST numeracy conference. They visited the Amber Department & viewed all their science equipment as well as having the opportunity to view the prestigious Book of Kells.

U12s All County Girls' Blitz
Ms. Savage & Ms. McClean were delighted when our U12 girls' team progressed through the first round of the All County Girls' Blitz narrowly defeating teams from St. Joseph's & St. Malachy's Girls' Schools. They now go forward to round 2 of this competition. Best of luck girls!!
Muire na nGael Perpetual Cups
Every year we organise in-school competitions for all classes and perpetual cups are awarded to the overall winners. We received a very high standard of entries this year and the judges had a very difficult task in choosing the winners.
Our 1st & 2nd class pupils participated in a handwriting competition and Lucy was delighted to be announced as the winner of the Gerard Judge Memorial Cup.
Congratulations also to Rossa, Brandon, Frankie, Caoimhe & Ellen who were the prize winners in their respective classes. Well done everybody, keep up the good work!!
Our 3rd & 4th class pupils submitted projects on European countries and it was Nathan's project on Italy which came out on top! Nathan is the proud winner of the Sean McCabe Memorial Cup. Well done also to Joshua, Migle, Sarah, Niamh, Veronika & Laura who were prize winners in their classes and they were all delighted to receive an Easter egg as their prize.
As the Sean & Karen Craven Memorial Cup had already been awarded to Jack in 6th class we organised another creative writing competition for our 5th classes.
The theme of the competition was "Our Families" as the World Meeting of Families will take place later this year in Dublin. The overall winner in 5th class was Ewan who was thrilled to receive a gift voucher while Nathan & Katie were delighted to receive an Easter egg for their efforts.
All classes from junior infants to 6th classes participated in a school feis and our judges Lorcan & Pádraigín Ní hUallacháin had a difficult task in selecting the overall winners! Nathan was overcome when his name was announced as the overall winner and he was delighted to receive the Breda Ní hUallacháin Memorial Cup. Brooke & Rebecca were also delighted to be announced as prize winners. We are grateful to Lorcan who sponsored Smyths vouchers for our 3 overall winners. All participants in the feis received beautiful medals and will go forward to represent the school in Feis Mhuirtheimhne on Sunday 22nd April in the Friary Hall.
Toyota Dream Car Art Competition
We were thrilled to have 3 national winners in this art competition. Congratulations to Alice & John who won 1st and 2nd prizes respectively in the U8 category & to Katie who won 1st prize in the 8-11 years old category. Their entries now go forward to the global competition where they could win a grand prize of a trip to Japan!! Fingers crossed!!
I.N.S.P.A. Photography Competition
Congratulations to Jack whose photographic entry was highly commended in a photography competition for national schools. As hundreds of entries were received for this competition this was a great achievement. Well done Jack!!
Fáilte Pope Francis Letter Writing & Art Competition
The Irish Catholic newspaper organised a competition for six to nine year olds asking them to write a letter of welcome to Pope Francis for his forthcoming visit to Ireland as part of the World Meeting of Families 2018. We were absolutely thrilled to have two winners in our school. Congratulations to Aoife who was the overall national winner receiving €1000 for our school. Aoife offered Pope Francis a room in her house during his time here in Ireland! Well done also to Ella who was highly commended for her beautiful poem welcoming Pope Francis to Ireland. Both girls' work appears in a specially commissioned book "Fáilte Pope Francis" which is on sale in all major retail outlets. The girls enjoyed a great day out in Dublin recently and had the honour of meeting Pope Francis himself (well the nearest we could get to meeting His Holiness - they got the opportunity to pose with a life size cardboard cut out of Pope Francis!).
CPSMA - Our School Family Art Competition
Congratulations to Katie who was the overall national winner of the "Our School Family" art competition. See Katie's colourful poster which shows a wide range of the activities we offer here in Muire na nGael. Katie attended a presentation ceremony in The Radisson Blu Hotel in Dublin and received a sports voucher and a camera for her prize. We were thrilled to learn on the day that Sineida, Alice, Ella & Terina were also highly commended for their magnificent entries.
